The cannabis plant is one of great mystery, and it has some fantastic, high power. Right before 2020 began, a group of Italian researchers discovered two new cannabinoids. Just when we thought we found them all, boom, two more to research and see the benefits that they hold. Introducing the tetrahydrophoral cannabinoid (THCP) and cannabidiphoral (CBDP). They have very similar functions and structures to the more familiar CBD & THC cannabinoids.
There have been approximately 150 phytocannabinoids found to date in the cannabis plant, and even though we have been using marijuana for centuries, it was only recently that we started to discover the many different compounds in the cannabis plant. There is still a lot of research to do on most of them. This has to do with the laws in the US and there is no doubt that this will change in the future.

This recently discovered molecule THCP researchers have found is significantly stronger in its ability to bind to the CB1 receptors. This does not mean that THCP is more potent than THC, just that is has a significant influence. The researchers have found that the THCP molecule chain is elongated, and this makes it different as THC has only five links THCP has seven in total.
The size of the side chain is known to play a crucial role in the effects of THC over the CB1 receptors found in our bodies. You may want to investigate our body’s cannabinoid system for a better understanding of our CB1 receptors. Three links are needed to bind to THC receptors with binding needing to peak at eight links before the activity decreases.
The importance of the THCP receptor’s length of the side chain seems to be that it has a stronger chemical affinity to the CB1 receptor than THC, and that suggests that it works more potently. Researchers have found that THCP is 33 times more functional then THC, and these findings are incredible because they could mean some great things for many different ailments such as chronic pain.
Just like THCP, CBDP has elongated side chains of seven as opposed to five .CBDP research has been put on a not high priority list as research has already told us that CBD’s binding ability with CBD1 and CBD2 is weak so it is doubtful that CBPD and the longer side chain could really make much difference in the binding of the CBD to human body receptors.
We will just have to wait and see, but the marijuana plant never ceases to surprise us with the tremendous medical properties it holds. The different roles cannabinoids play when it comes to healing the body and aiding in the relief of pain are still largely unknown and ineffective for most medical cases.
This is a fascinating study as we have always thought that THC was the cannabinoid that had psychoactive effects, but the fact is that it may be due to THCP. This means that we might need to cross-breed strains that are CBDP and THCP dominant to treat more severe pain issues and because THCP may be a much better pain reliever. Research is happening in a long way and huge thanks to the researchers in Italy for finding these two beauties.
It is inspiring to see cannabis being tested and researched, and the fantastic results that we are learning about. The pharmaceutical profiles that are developed to ensure patients can have the right strain of weed to help with their ailments are absolutely fantastic. The amount that we have learned when it comes to CBD receptors is astounding.
