Lift & Co.’s sixth annual awards honoured the top products, people and companies in Canada’s cannabis industry.

For Canada’s burgeoning cannabis industry, the Canadian Cannabis Awards (CCAs) is a special event: a night of acclaim, camaraderie and more than a little bit of glamour. Presented in partnership with MNP, the black-tie gala at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto drew hundreds of people from across Canada’s cannabis industry, recognizing the top people, products and companies across 32 categories. And as Canada marked its first year of legal recreational cannabis, this year’s awards saw a record-breaking number of consumer votes for their favourite dried flower, oils, capsules and pre-rolls.

“Your buds, my buds — we’re here to celebrate them all,” quipped CCAs host Sarah Hanlon, Big Brother Canada winner and cannabis ambassador.

The sixth annual awards introduced new categories for Top Entrepreneur, Top Master Grower, Top Budtender and Top Budtender Reviewer. 7ACRES took home Brand of the Year for the second year in a row, while retailer Superette swept several award categories, including the Womxn In Weed—Trailblazer award going to CEO and co-founder Mimi Lam.

“Shoutout to all the queens in this room. We’re all trailblazers,” Lam said in her speech. “Keep doing what you’re doing, because we’re making an impact, we’re making a difference.”

As the industry gathered to celebrate 2019 and look ahead to another year of growth, award winner TREC Brands (Top Employer) used the opportunity to launch its 10% for Good initiative, calling on fellow cannabis companies to build a positive legacy of corporate social responsibility initiatives. As part of the campaign, donations can be made to three Canadian charities: Dress for Success Toronto, HXOUSE and Cannabis Amnesty. Donations can be made here until the end of the year.
