Scientists of the Institute of Physics. L.V. Kirensk Federal Research Center “Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS” (FIC KSC SB RAS) have developed a unique elastic absorber of heat, the publication “Science in Siberia . ” A flexible “black body” can be combined with thermoelectric materials and placed on human skin. This will make it possible to use a person as an energy source for portable devices.
Within the framework of the Federal project “Spectrum-M” (space observatory “Millimetron”) scientists of the Physics Institute. L.V. Kirensk FIC KSC SB RAS investigated the absorbing properties of metallized polymer films designed to protect spacecraft from solar radiation. It turned out that these materials also have terrestrial applications. During the project, Krasnoyarsk scientists managed to create a unique flexible heat sink. The creator of the “black body” is the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, a researcher at the Laboratory of Molecular Spectroscopy of the KSC of the SB RAS Alexander Ivanenko.
To create the absorber, a diamond-graphite mixture and polyethylene granules are used. The material is formed by heating the starting components under high pressure. The diamond-graphite mixture, which provides heat absorption, enters the polyethylene matrix and produces a flexible structure.

The absorber developed in Krasnoyarsk differs from the materials close to the properties of the minimum thickness, the ability to capture a wide range of wavelengths, absorb maximum heat and not reflect it. The film from the absorber can be integrated into the electronics and placed on the human skin. Using human heat as an energy source, the material will transfer heat to the thermoelectric elements to convert it into the voltage needed to operate the portable device.
According to Igor Tambasov, Ph.D. in Physics and Mathematics, a researcher at the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center of the SB RAS, now researchers are working on creating a ready-made prototype device using an absorber as an “element of nutrition”.
“The absorber was designed and developed for use in the Millimeter project. The device is currently used in the hardware and software complex to measure the radiative and absorbing capacity of coatings in a wide range of temperatures. In the future, it can be used in photothermoelectric converters. That is, wherever there are heat sources, and these are machines, CHP, we can supply absorbers and collect additional energy with the help of thermoelectric materials, from this point of view it can be attributed to energy-efficient technologies, “the scientist shared his plans.
